2012 Master - Jeffrey Black

Jeffrey Black, Baritone

Jeffrey Black is an internationally acclaimed opera singer with a career spanning over thirty years.

He made his operatic debut as a principal singer with the Australian Opera in 1984 and has since appeared internationally with many leading opera companies, including The Metropolitan Opera New York, The Royal Opera Covent Garden and the Opera Bastille Paris.

His interpretations of the roles of Mozart and Rossini have been highly acclaimed. He also has an extensive concert and recital repertoire appearing at many of the premiere venues including Wigmore Hall, Festival Hall and the Salzburg Festival.

David Harper

Born and raised in New Zealand but based in the UK for the last forty years, David has earned a glowing reputation worldwide for his accompanying and vocal coaching skills. His clientele includes various distinguished international singers – many of whom also frequently invite him to collaborate in recital at prestigious international venues, as well as students and young aspiring professionals from all points of the globe.

Over the last decade David has often returned to Australasia, establishing a prominent professional profile here to complement his northern hemisphere activities. Biennial visits enable him to fulfil a variety of commitments including intermittent guest coaching periods with Opera Australia, tutorships at Summer Singing Schools, song recital engagements, and regular private vocal coaching stints in numerous locations.

David is proud to maintain his longstanding association with the IFAC Australian Singing Competition as accompanist and prize donor.

2012 MasterClass Program

5 Finalists

Featuring our 2012 Finalists in a public MasterClass with baritone Jeffrey Black and accompanist David Harper.

Approximately 2.5 hours.

2012 MASTERCLASS

Now in its third year, our MasterClass is the opportunity for 5 selected Finalists to receive one-on-one expert tuition from a seasoned professional performer.

Each singer will perform part of an aria and be mentored on text, technical and emotional aspects of their performance, technique and lyrical interpretation. The audience and fellow Finalists watch and listen as the Master works with one person at a time.

The MasterClass provides an intimate and unique window of experience into this most wonderful of artforms.
